Introduction
The England Project - Growing an increasingly accurate branch of Wikitree's single family tree
Our Project Team strives to grow the England branch of Wikitree's global tree and to improve the quality of England profiles.
Members of our Profile Improvement Teams and County Teams work on an ongoing basis to improve English profiles. We track progress through various measures which are summarised in the following reports.
The reports are collated each week to show profile numbers and our headline quality measures, There is a headline report for England with similar reports for each of our counties. Not all profiles can be allocated to a county; those that can't are collated in the England Unknown County report.

Commentary 21 January 2025 (data download to week ending 18 January 2025)
We had bumper week for adding new profiles with the intake numbers boosted in the first part of the ‘Thon’. This was the highest week we have seen for new bookings for 2 years!
With the focus on adding new profiles, there is typically some slippage in our other measures during a Connect-a-Thon. We had a quieter week for sourcing and a below average week for fixing Suggestions and identifying Unknowns. However, we had our best week in 6 months for connecting Unconnected profiles.
Our ‘Unknown County’ profiles increased by a few hundred, but in percentage terms, we saw a very slight improvement.
Our ‘top counties’ last week for delivering percentage improvements in the different categories were:
- Profiles Sourced: Suffolk, Herefordshire, Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire
- Connections: Westmorland, Devon, Staffordshire and Cambridgeshire
- Suggestions: Cambridgeshire, Cumberland, Buckinghamshire and Hertfordshire
- Unknowns: Herefordshire, Somerset, Dorset and Cambridgeshire

If it's not deemed desirable to reverse the change, one thing we could do is use Wikitree-plus to create lists of open profiles for each each suggestion for each county, without the time periods. We could then add those Wikitree-plus links to each county page (or some other appropriate place).
