Our role

The England Project Categories Team works with the Categorization Project to maintain categories relating to England.

Information on how new categories are set up is on this page, or linked from it: Categorisation in England.

Cemeteries reports

AleŇ° is maintaining two reports comparing WikiTree cemetery categories with Find a Grave.

Cemetery categories

  • Unlinked Categories lists cemetery categories which are not linked to a Find a Grave cemetery
  • Empty Categories lists cemetery categories with no profiles
  • Multiple Categories lists cemetery categories which are linked to multiple Find a Grave cemeteries
  • Linked Categories lists cemetery categories linked to the same Find a Grave cemetery

Find a Grave Cemeteries

  • Missing Cemeteries: Lists all Find a Grave Cemeteries with wikitree profiles linked to them without a WikiTree category. It is most likely that there is no cemetery category on WikiTree, but make sure before creating a new one.
  • Unlinked Cemeteries: Lists all Find a Grave Cemeteries with WikiTree profiles linked to them with a WikiTree category that is not linked to Find a Grave. To link it to Find a Grave, use CategoryInfoBox or if it is already used, make sure that the "findagrave=" parameter is entered.
  • Multiple Cemeteries: Lists all Find a Grave Cemeteries with WikiTree profiles linked to a different cemetery category. A profile may be in the wrong category, or there may be an error on Find a Grave.
  • Partial Cemeteries: Lists all Find a Grave Cemeteries with WikiTree profiles and WikiTree categories linked to them, where the profiles are missing the cemetery category.
  • Complete Cemeteries: Lists all Find a Grave Cemeteries with WikiTree profiles and WikiTree categories linked to them and are complete and have no problems!

The reports are updated every few days.

Religious Congregations

The work to apply the Category Information Box for "Religious Congregations" to all of the churches etc. previously categorised as "Religious Institions" is virtually complete. We need to keep an eye out for new categories being created without the CIB or with ambiguous names. Congregation category names must include the word "Church", "Chapel" or similar, to distinguish them from any place or other institution with the same name, and must include the county. "Saint" in a church name should always be abbreviated to "St" (no full stop in English usage), except in the phrase All Saints.

Categories and sub-categories without a CIB can be identified using this link: https://plus.wikitree.com/function/WTCatNavigate/Category.htm?Category=England&Levels=2 . The first column shows whether the category has a CIB. Replace "England" in the link with a specific county name to shorten the list.
