Description - This project serves multiple purposes; to identify the various Estes lines descending from the immigrant, Abraham Estes of Virginia, to compare all of the Estes/Eastes, Este, d'Este lines worldwide and eventually, to attempt to confirm or dispel the Italian Renaissance Roots D'Este/Estes family myth.

We have representatives of Mathew and Richard Estes from the Northern Estes line out of New Hampshire and Massachusetts. These men were the sons of Robert Estes and Dorothy Wilson, and a cousin to the Southern Estes line immigrant Abraham. We have each of Abraham's lines documented genetically except for Samuel who remains elusive. We have also been fortunate enough to have one Estes male from England test as well. We welcome all Estes males of any surname spelling.

Several Estes lines have been identified and we are actively seeking European Estes to test.

Initially, the project was focused on Y-line DNA only, but more recently with the advent of the Family Finder test, we welcome all Estes descendants and will group them according to ancestral line.

Requirements - A Surname DNA Project traces members of a family that share a common surname. They are of the most interest in cultures where surnames are passed on from father to son like the Y-Chromosome. This project is for males taking a Y-Chromosome DNA (Y-DNA) test. Thus, the individual who tests must be a male who wants to check his direct paternal line (father's father's father's...) with a Y-DNA12, Y-DNA37, Y-DNA67, or Y-DNA111 test and who has one of the surnames listed for the project. Females do not carry their father's Y-DNA. Females who would like to check their father's direct paternal line can have a male relative with his surname order a Y-DNA test. Females can also order an mtDNA test for themselves such as the mtDNAPlus test or the mtFullSequence test and participate in an mtDNA project. Both men and women may take our autosomal Family Finder test to discover recent relationships across all family lines.

Of Moses' brothers, two had only one son (Thomas Jr & James), leaving Elisha & Aaron. Nothing is known of Elisha other than his parentage and that he was in Henry Co, TN in 1829 (he was the principal in a 1829 estate petition). Aaron, also alive in 1829, was in Chatham Co, NC in 1800 - as was Wiley, so is the most likely candidate)" 16.^[1]
