[1]Here are three of the tasks that I think need to be done. I'll be working on them, and could use your help.

  • Proven lines to Campbell of (old) Loudoun

Campbell of Loudoun is one of the oldest cadet families of Campbell of Lochow as a branch of Campbell of Argyll. It continued until Master George Campbell, d. 1612, had two daughters, Margaret and Elizabeth. Margaret inherited the title and married John Campbell of Lawers, who, after he married, he was created, 12th May 1633, 1st Earl of Loudoun, Lord Terrinyean AND Machline, and Lord Chancellor of Scotland 1641-60. Hence, any descendants of John, 1st Earl of Loudoun, would carry the YDNA of Lawers, a descendant of Campbell of Glenorchy.

Look for more information about Campbell of Loudoun on the Clan Campbell Society of North America page: https://www.ccsna.org/earl-of-loudoun

  • Encouraging YDNA Testing of Campbells who think they are connected to Campbell of Loudoun

The cadets are likely from earlier generations of Campbells of Loudoun. The lines are not clear.

  • Identifying cadet families of Loudoun

Here is an example: > FGC10122 (Loudoun) > FT10120 (Killoch) FT138216 (Auchmannoch) >FT139733 (Fairfield)

I started with the genealogy handed to me by my grandfather 50 years ago. I confirmed the information and traced my line to Lunenburg, MA/Sterling, MA.

Another Phineas Campbell, b. nearly the same time, was found in Bedford, NH. But no death certificate meant no way of connecting the two. And no history of the Bedford Campbell meant no way of connecting the two. FTDNA started offering tests, so I did first a Y37, then a Y67, and then a Y111. The results were confusing, as Campbell of Arkinglass, Campbell of Craignish, and Campbell of Auchinbreck all seemed within the STR parameters of my results. Finally the Y700 test was available, and my terminal Haplogroup (currently FGC10120 (Loudoun) > FT138216 (Auchmannoch/Killoch) >FT139733 (Fairfield)>FT16743> FT168941>FT169037) was identified. Not to make the paper connection to Fairfield and up to (old Loudoun).

Why (Old) Loudoun?

FT10122 daughtered out with Master George Campbell, d. 1612. His daughter, Barroness Margaret Campbell, m. John Campbell, of Lawers, and he was given the Loudoun title. YDNA will follow Lawers, not Loudoun.
