In the name of God Amen. I John Caly of Eastbourne in the County of Sussex yoman being sick and weak but of good and perfect memorie Praised be Almightie God therefore, revoking all former Wills heretofore by me made, Doe make and ordaine this my last Will and Testament in Writing in manner and forme following:

In primis I give and bequeath unto my loving Wife Margaret Caly the summe of twentie pounds a yeare of good and lawfull money of England to be payd unto her quarterly by even and equall portions during her naturall life by my Executor hereafter named, Item more unto her two Quarters of Wheat and two Quarters of Malt to be delivered unto hir within one week next after my decease, Item I give more unto her all the Wood Coale Bacon and Butter which shall be in my house at the tyme of my decease:

Item I give unto the poore People of the Parish of Alfriston the Summe of twentie Shillings to be distributed betwixt them at the discretion of Thomas Chowne Esqr and Richard Page yoman to be payd unto them within one fortnight next after my decease:

Item I give unto every poore Widdowe of the Parish of Eastbourne aforesaid and unto tenn of the poorest house keepers, to every of them twelve-pence apiece, and to the rest of the poorest house keepers six-pence apiece, to be payd unto the Churchwardens and Overseers hands within one month next after my decease:

Item I give more unto the Poore of Eastbourne aforesaid the Summe of five pounds to be payd into the hands of [the Churchwardens] and Overseers of the said Parish within three months next after my decease, to be put out by them and the benefit thereof arising to be every yeare equals divided every New Yeares Day by the Churchwardens and Overseers for the tyme being unto six of the poorest widdows of the said Parish of Eastbourne:

Item I give and bequeath unto Elizabeth Morye my Grandchild the summe of two hundred pounds of good and lawfull money of England to be payd her by my Executor hereafter named, when she shall accomplish the Age of eighteen yeares: Item I give unto Margaret Morye my Grandchild the summe of one hundred pounds of lawfull money of England to be paid unto her by my Executor, when she shall accomplish the age of eighteen yeares; And if either of my said Grandchildren shall happen to dye before her portion shall be due and payable by this my last Will, then I will the portion of her soe dying shall be payd to the surviving Daughter: And if it shall happen that both of them shall dye before their portions shall be due and payable by this my Will then I give the said three hundred pounds unto Elizabeth Nowell eldest daughter of Mr William Nowell and Margaret his wife my Daughter

Item I give unto Thomas Morye my Sonne in Lawe, and to the said Elizabeth and Margaret Morye his Daughters all such houses tenements and lands as is and hereafter shall be due unto mee, by virtue of any Mortgage Judgments Bonds Assignments or otherwise howsoever made, acknowledged and executed by Francis Scarlet gent The said Thomas Morye his heires Executors having and keeping harmeless my Executor hereafter named his executors and administrators from the said Francis Scarlet, and from all other person and persons clayming by from or under the said Francis, or by from or under Benjamin Scarlet gent deceased for or by reason of rent receaved by mee in my life tyme and charges for Reparations and other Duties payd by John Hollands the elder of Eastbourne aforesaid, and Richard and Thomas Martin, which were formerly Occupiers of the Messuage and Lands assigned over to mee

Item I give and bequeath unto the said Margaret Nowell my Daughter the Summe of two hundred pounds of lawfull money of England, to be payd unto her within one yeare next after the death of Margaret Caly my wife, if she the said Margaret my Daughter shall be then living, And if she shall bee dead then I will and bequeath the said two hundred pounds shall be equally divided amongst all her Children that she be then living, And if she shall leave noe Children or Child behynd her, then I give and bequeath the said two hundred pounds unto the said Elizabeth and Margaret Morye to be equally divided betweene them, and to be payd them as their former Legacies were to be payd:

Item I give and bequeath unto John Caly and Thomas Caly Sonnes of my Brother Thomas Caly deceased and unto the two Children of John Harwood[?] of Bury St Edmonds in the Countie of Suffolk and Mary his wife deceased daughter of the said Thomas deceased, to each of them fortie shillings apiece to be payd unto them within tree months next after the death of the said Margaret my wife:

Item I give and bequeath unto the said Margaret Nowell my Daughter and to her heires forever all that my Messuage or Tenement lands and premises with the appurtenances situate lying and being in Yaxton and Malverton[?] in the said Countie of Sussex and now in the occupation of Daniell Lee his Assignee or Assignes Upon this trust and confidence nevertheless, that she the said Margaret Nowell her heires and Assignes shall cause to be payd unto the children of the said Thomas Caly my Brother deceased the Summe of two hundred and fortie pounds given unto them by the last Will and testament of Edmund Caly my brother deceased to be payd unto them within one yeare next after the death of Elizabeth Caly his then wife, and now the wife of Thomas Bush of Cowfold in the said Countie of Sussex gent But if the said Margaret Nowell my daughter her Heires and Assignes shall neglect or refuse to pay the said two hundred and fortie pounds to the children of the said Thomas Caly deceased, as the same is given unto them by the last Will of the said Edmund Caly (the same being lawfully demanded) then I give and bequeath the said Messuage Tenement Lands and Premises with the Appurtenances unto the children of the said Thomas Caly deceased their heires and Assignes in full recompence of the said Legacie of two hundred and fortie pounds given unto them by the said Edmund Caly their Uncle:

Item I give and bequeath unto the said Mr William Nowell my Sonne in Lawe my Clocke: Item I give and bequeath the rest of all my household stuff after the death of the said Margaret my wife unto the said Margaret Nowell my Daughter, and the said Elizabeth and Margaret Morye, to be equally divided betweene them:

Item all the rest of my Goods Chattells moneyes Debts Moetgages and Surrenders not before given and bequeathed I give and bequeath unto the said Mr William Nowell my Sonne in Lawe for the Payment of my Debts and Legacies and performing of this my Will according to the due intent and cleare meaning thereof

And I make the said William Nowell sole Executor of this my last Will and Testament:

In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seale the foure and twentieth Day of February in the seven and twentieth yeare of the Reigne of our Soveraigne Lord Charles the second by the Grace of God of England Scotland France and Ireland King Defender of the Faith or Anno Domini One thousand six hundred and seventie foure.
