The cemetery opened towards the end of 1918 as Nairobi South Cemetery was reaching capacity. The first burial was that of F Fernandes on 6 Nov 1918. There are 3 sections to the cemetery
1) Civilian section 2) War Graves World War 2 cemetery. There are also 5 burials from the First World War located within the civilian section. 3) Jewish section which was first used in 1948 when the Jewish Cemetery at Nairobi South Cemetery became full.
Burials in the main cemetery declined from 1946 when City Park Cemetery opened but burials still take place in the Jewish section.
