The goal of this project is to create a full and comprehensive tree of notable organized crime figures in the United States of America.

Right now this project just has one member, me. I am Christina Jobe.

Here are some of the tasks that I think need to be done. I'll be working on them, and could use your help.

  • creating profiles
  • sourcing information
  • linking mafia families with one another

Will you join me? Please post a comment here on this page, in G2G using the project tag, or send me a private message. Thanks!

FYI: There used to be a subproject that covered this subject matter, under the Black Sheep Project. The project was disbanded in 2020, but there are a lot of categories already set up (https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Category:Gangsters) and a space page here: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project:Gangsters. Have fun!

I believe that my ancestors MIGHT have been under some sort of mafia control or threat from back in Italy. GGF would never talk about it, but he once said he left Italy to get away from "the Hand" which we later learned could be a reference to the mafia. There was also a story of my GGF earning a bunch of money in the US then going back to Italy to bring his wife to the US, but his money "disappeared" and he had to come back to the states and start over again. When my dad visited the old country, he asked if anyone knew people with that particular surname, and he got SILENCE. No one would tell him anything. Eventually, someone informed him that there is a "family compound" but that no one is allowed in besides members of the family. Sounds super suspicious! But my family here in the US was never involved, so I'm not sure how helpful my tree will be. But please let me know if there is anything I can do!

Hi Marci,

Thanks for sharing your story. I love hearing people’s stories about their families. I’m really impressed with your tree. I’ve got a brick wall on my family in Italy right now. If you want to join in our project, just add the Gangsters category to the profile of the Gangster that you are adding into the global tree.
