35TH ANNUAL GANN GATHERING 2023
Hello, I am a member of the board of directors for the Gann Historical Society and Library. We are a 501(c)(3) genealogical research group for the Gann surname and its variants, such as Gann, Gan, Ghan, Gahn, Ganne.
For anyone interested, we'd like to invite you to attend the 35th Annual Conference of the Gann Historical Society & Library more commonly known as a Gann Gathering. We will be in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma (just outside of Tulsa), June 23-24, 2023. The conference begins at 9 am on Friday (6/23/23) and continues with exciting presentations through Saturday (6/24/23) morning. The Society’s annual business meeting will follow in the afternoon, and an informal Farewell Banquet on Saturday evening concludes the event weekend. We encourage all Gann (Gan, Ghan, Gahn, etc.) descendants and collateral families with a common interest to attend in person (registration pricing is on the form) or virtually via Zoom (for a small fee).
This is a Gann Gathering you won’t want to miss! We have an exciting lineup that includes: *Groundbreaking genetic genealogy discoveries of colonial Gann wives by the GHS&L Director of Research, professional genealogist, Thea Walden Baker.
- New findings about our American foundation couple, Samuel and Elizabeth Gann’s homestead in frontier Frederick Co., Virginia, by field researcher David M. Gann.
- A surprise research find that answers a 100-year-old Gann mystery by William R. “Bill” Gann and Gary R. Toms.
- Local guest speakers with enriching narratives of Native American and Oklahoma history and culture are:
Dr. Hugh Foley, professor in the Department of Fine Arts at Rogers State University. Mike Sheriff, a lifetime member of the Oklahoma Historical Society, who focuses on the Revolutionary War, Civil War, and U.S. Marshals in Indian Territory.
- Plus, entertainment at the banquet with "The Cimarron Songbird" Monica Taylor, along with her husband Travis Fite. (She is of Cherokee Ancestry.)
A block of hotel rooms with special conference rates is available for this year's Gann Gathering until May 22, 2023, at the Broken Arrow, Oklahoma Hilton Garden Inn. There are rooms with either 2-Queen-sized beds or 1-King-sized bed for $119 per night. Contact the hotel at (918) 940-8444, and be sure to mention the Gann Historical Society.
