Biography

Birth and Name

Michael Patrick Edwards (aka Michael Wood Edwards) was born on 6 April 1928 in San Francisco, California.^[1]. He was the son of Alton W. Edwards and Jessica Edna Wood.^[1]^[2] In the 1930 census Michael (age 1 ¹¹/₁₂) was living at 970 Santa Barbara Road, Berkeley, Alameda, California.^[3] His father, Alton W., was a 36-year-old purchasing agent in the canned goods industry. Alton had been married to Jessica E. Wood (30) for ten years. Michael and his older sister Patricia (age 4 ⁷/₁₂) were both listed as native Californians, as were both of their parents. A younger brother Jeremy was born in 1934.^[4] When Michael (18) registered for military service in on 19 September 1946, he was still living at 970 Santa Barbara Road. He listed the U.S. Merchant Marine as his employer.^[5]

Marriage and Family

In the 1950 census Michael (age 21), Assistant Mgr of Inventory Control in food production, was married to Anita R. Edwards (19, a "comptometer operator" at a Life Insurance company). The couple was living in Oakland, Alameda, California, United States and had not yet had any children.^[6] In 1960, the couple is living on 2264 W Swain Rd in Stockton, California, where Michael is listed as "Dis[trict] S[a]l[e]s M[ana]g[e]r for Flotill Prod[ucts].^[7]

Death

Michael died (age 61) on 16 January 1990 in San Joaquin, California.^[8]^[2]^[1]

Inconsistancies, questions, rejected matches

WIFE The original profile for Michael Edwards lacked sources. As sources were collected for Michael Edwards (b. 6 April 1928), the connection to a wife named Constance Murphy unfortunately did NOT match the 1950 census record identifying "Anita R." as Michael's wife. This suggests that a conflation may have occured by mistake.
(#2) Michael Edwards (Mar 1950 Sacramento) In the 1950 census, a Michael Edwards (born March) was recorded as the son of Stanley P Edwards (27) and his wife Barbara (26, born in Minnesota) living in his father's household in Sacramento California with his 2-year-old brother James P. (both children born in California).^[9]

Edwards (Aug 1950 Los Angeles) In the 1950 census Michael (born in Aug) was living in the household of his grandfather Bert N Edwards (54, born Oklahoma) in Los Angeles California, with Bert's wife Dollie (50, born Kansas) their daughter Doris E. (14, born California) and widowed son Herb W. (25, born Kansas). Michael and his older brother John. K (1) were presumably the sons of Herb and his unnamed, deceased wife.^[10]

Edwards (Dec 1949 Long Beach) In the 1950 census, this Michael Edwards (born Dec) was listed as the step grandson of Gordon S Starkey (31, born Ohio) and his wife Marie (34, born Oklahoma). The child's mother, Jane E. Edwards (23), is the couples daughter-in-law, and her husband Jack Edwards (24) is also living in the home of his step-parents-in-law in Long Beach, Los Angeles, California.^[11]
