Goals

This is a One Name Study to collect together in one place everything about one surname and the variants of that name. The hope is that other researchers like you will join our study to help make it a valuable reference point for people studying lines that cross or intersect.

Variants (and Similar Names), Origins, Meanings

Officially on WikiTree, we can only have 2 variants in addition to the "original" proposed GAUGHAN. What follows is an incomplete list of variants.

Hi, my great-great grandmother was Margaret Gaughan. She was born in County Mayo, Ireland in the 1830s and died in Indiana in 1908. She married James Clark. I found an immigration that was probably her, and she immigrated with a Mary Gaughan who was the same age and a Patt (Patrick?) Gaughan who was a year older, arriving in New York in 1851. These could be siblings, and perhaps Mary is her sister-in-law. I have not confirmed her parents yet, but believe they may be Patrick Gaughan and Mary Calloway. There were apparently a lot of Gaughans in Jennings County, Indiana. I am interested in finding more about the Gaughan family and would like to help add to your surname project as I learn more about this branch of my family. Her ID is Gaughan-219. Thanks!
