OpenArch link formatter

Starting with version 2021.2.2, Genealogietools.nl can create a simple copy-paste inline reference from the document URL.

Why?

Many WikiTree users use OpenArch.nl to find primary sources for their profiles. OpenArch also links to family trees on one of its sister websites and can thus be a great research tool.

A document page offers a textual references, but in most cases that reference still needs work to include links to the original at the archive (OpenArch is a repository, not an archive) and to OpenArch itself. Without the links, the citation is compliant with citing standards, but not very user friendly.

The document link can also be used by automated scripts to link the WikiTree profile to external profiles and sources, it is a unique identifier. The more accurate links are present on a profile, the better so to say.

How?

Just paste the url, something like https://www.openarch.nl/NNN:LONGSTRING from your browser into the formatter box and hit 'format'.

You will be presented by a string you can copy with the Copy button and then paste as an inline citation.

The formatter is based on the one for WieWasWie. More information can be found on the help page for that one.

Comments/ Questions?

Version 2021.2.2 has a very limited formatter. Please use the link to the G2G post to describe any issue not listed here alrready:

Known issues in v2021.2.2 (see small yellow box bottom right for current version):

  • The persons in the document are not parsed into the people table below the result
  • Some archive links do not work well. Please report them in the G2G, include the link you tried to parse.
  • The province following the location is estimated and might not be 100% accurate. Please check carefully when you are working on locations that have changed their province.
  • Formatter should be spelled formater. Sure. Both words do not exist, so I made up a Dunglish one ;)
