Summary
Description of The Bramhall Family in England
The book begins with a section on the history of Bramhall Hall (first mentioned in 1086) and its ownership, starting at some point later, with a Matthew de Bromale. It follows down to approximately his great-great-great granddaughter, who married a Davenport and whose family the manor stayed with for many more years.
When the Bromale male line entitled to bear the Bramhall arms became extinct, they were regranted in 1602 to a John Bramhall and in 1628, his grandson, John Bramhall DD, The author lists some of his descendants. This section also ends with no male heirs.
The author returns again to a description of the beauty of the manor. As far as the author knows, all Bramhalls of England and America are descended from the Bramhalls of this manor.
The next section of the book begins the line of Bramhalls the author means to follow. There is no actual connection in this book to the families of Matthew de Bromale or John Bramhall.
Description of The Bramhalls in America
The Bramhall family this book follows are the descendants of George Bramhall.
His parents are listed as James Bramhall, R. N. (the only child of Cornelius Bramhall, native of Canterbury) and Lady Florence Temple.
His siblings were Cornelius, William, Joseph, and Mary.
Cornelius, William, and George were said to have come over from England about 1680, landing at Casco (now Portland, Maine).
Starting with the Second Generation section, most individuals are numbered when they are listed under their parents. Occasionally, descendants of the numbered individuals will be listed immediately underneath without numbering.
There are also several pages of pictures (which are numbered, but don't list names.)
