History

See Stephen Heard for possible link to this plantation. Also see Heardmont Farm as this is the actual name of the plantation. In his profile his plantation's name was Heardmont. He had 9 children with Elizabeth Darden.

  • Barnard Carroll, Martha Burch, George Washington, John Adams, Bridget Carroll, Pamela Darden, Thomas Jefferson, Sarah Hammond, and Jane Lanier

More research is required to verify that this plantation and its enslaved are connected to Stephen Heard and his heirs. Please see: Slaves of Elizabeth Darden Heard, Georgia for the distribution of the enslaved in her probate inventory.[1]

1850 U.S. Slave Schedule

This information is based on the the U.S. 1850 Federal Slave Schedule of Wilkes County Georgia. The owner of these enslaved persons is listed as HEARD and nothing more. I am assuming that this is General Heard mentioned by Robert Heard who was a former enslaved ancestor that was interviewed by the Federal Writers Project between 1936 and 1938.

FYI for those working on this plantation: In the Heardmont Cemetery there are two of the enslaved, "Mammy Kate", and "Daddy Jack". They have been recognized by the DAR as Revolutionary War Patriots.
