The German diaspora describes German speakers who emigrated from central Europe. This Wikipedia article describes the "German" term as a sociolinguistic group as opposed to the national one. "the Alsatians and Hessians were simply called Germans once they set foot in their new homelands."

The following table is primarily based on the member states of the German Confederation (German: Deutscher Bund) between 1815 and 1866. It shows the migration categories that have been identified in Wikitree (December 2021)(Last update 13 October 2023).

Nice! Congratulations! If you add an Africa column, I could add my ancestor https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Defin-37 who is also a Southafrica notable. I have other relatives that emigrated from Austria to Argentina, but just pre-WWII.

Thank you. My very first versions had columns for Africa and Asia. The whole table got too cramped in the limited space. I'm trying to find a way to use the full width of the page.

Your ancestor is worth adding. I'll temporarily drop the South America column to add Africa.
