Glenrio is a ghost town on Route 66 that sits on the Texas/New Mexico stateline. Founded in 1903 as a railroad town, it began receiving motorists on the dusty Ozark Trail in 1917. The Ozark Trail became Route 66 on 11 Nov 1926.

It's location in two states led to some interesting developments. Because of New Mexico's higher gasoline taxes, gas stations were on the Texas part of town. Because Deaf Smith County, Texas was a dry county, the bars and saloons were on the New Mexico part of town. Portions of The Grapes of Wrath were filmed in Glenrio.
