Cannot confirm his parents but have found information suggesting that his father was Robert Gibson of Charleston South Carolina possibly a literate “sadler” or merchant who owned a shop in Charleston & who was alive at least until 1809, his mother (married in 1784) was possibly named Jane Callaghan the widow of a man named John Callaghan & he may also have siblings named Elizabeth Gibson, John Callaghan, & Thomas Callaghan (Gibson) aka T.C. Gibson
