Ship Arrival at Swan River Colony
Gilmore 1829

The goal of this project is centred around all the passengers on the Gilmore when it arrived at the Swan River Colony.

The plan is to create profiles (where possible) for every passenger, link them to the main tree (won't always be possible), properly source them, and provide biographies for them.

This project page is to keep track of current progress, rather than having it scrawled on pieces of paper around my home. Then if I lose interest or keel over somebody who stumbles over this project could continue with it.

Census Record
Swan River Colony
1832 Census #

One of the main sources is The Bicentennial Dictionary of Western Australians (BDWA). Whole excellent, this is a secondary source and does have errors. I've also been finding the East Perth Cemetery search useful

Right now this project just has one member, me. I am Mark Dorney.

Identifying Pasengers

List of Passengers 1929 | Passenger List Swan River Pioneers 1829 - 1838 Gilmore

Number of passengers in WAGS passenger list above 168

Passengers identified in other sources:
William Forward is identified in Bicentennial Dictionary of Western Australians (BDWA)
The BDWA implies that William Keats was accompanied by two sons on the Gilmore.
WAGS only lists one child for the Pengellys, but they had two children, Elizabeth and John Richard
WAGS lists seven children for the Pettits, but they had eight children by 1829. The eldest, John was old enough to come separately but the BDWA explicitly states he was on the Gilmore.

Passengers not connected to the main tree

I'm not sure how often it's updated, but the following list can be used. Simply search for "Gilmore" to find profiles marked as being in that category.

3 March 2020 comment: Although the current date stamp on this query is 27 February, it's clearly not up to date.

Some individuals cannot realistically be hoped to connect to the main tree. Some that look promising are:
Lancelot Taylor Cooke A reasonably uncommon looking name
William Dalton Any connection would be through his second wife.

Passengers requiring a reasonable biography

I plan to go through these by surname. I don't plan to generally alter existing biographies. Part of the process will be adding all children and spouses.

Surnames starting with B through M are complete! Surnames starting with P have been started.

Hello Mark!

Great idea compiling this passenger list! Let me know if you need information when you come to the Thomas family. I am trying to trace their family beginnings in the UK. Cheers

Hi Mark, fantastic page!! Thanks for your work. I discovered the URL to the passenger list doesn't seem to work any more. Do you know if there is an updated link?
