About the Project

The Gilpin Name Study project serves as a collaborative platform to collect information on the Gilpin name. The hope is that other researchers like you will join the study to help make it a valuable reference point for other genealogists who are researching or have an interest in the Gilpin name.

As a One Name Study, this project is not limited to persons who are related biologically. Individual studies can be used to branch out the research into specific methods and areas of interest, such as geographically (England Gilpin's), by time period (18th Century Gilpin's), or by topic (Gilpin DNA, Gilpin Occupations, Gilpin Statistics). These studies may also include a number of family branches which have no immediate link with each other. Some researchers may even be motivated to go beyond the profile identification and research stage to compile fully sourced, single-family histories of some of the families they discover through this name study project.

Also see the related surnames and surname variants.

Congratulations, Amy! And thanks for all the work. // I am descended from Gertrude GILPIN and John SMITH (sure, why not?!). Gertrude is the daughter of Vincent GILPIN and Abigail WOODWARD. I've been DNA tested at 23AndMe, Ancestry, Family Tree DNA, MyHeritage, and LivingDNA. Happy to help however I can. Also have a handful of other descendants whose DNA kits I manage. Thanks! Amy, I am a Gilpin by birth and have done a lot of research on my family and hundreds of Gilpins are in my data base. I would be happy to help out with the Gilpin Name Study. I have also been able to identify two different male Gilpin lines based on the Y - chromosome haplogroup.

Hi, I've been trolling through the tree correcting mis-spellings of Louisiana, and ran across this category:

"Category: Louisianna, Gilpin Name Study"

Please note the state name should only have one 'n'. Not sure what needs to be done to correct it, but would you please check into that? There are only two profiles under this category so it shouldn't take any time to fix. Thanks!

I have a Gilpin line. I would be glad to help.

HI Amy,

I am also related to the Gilpin's on my mother's side of the family. I would love to join your name study and see what else we can find out about our shared ancestors.

Thank you, Steven Warren
