Subdivisions

Hundreds - Häraden

The island is divided into two Hundreds, the northern and the southern.

District Courts - Ting

The island has been divided into 20 district courts (tings) since the middle ages. Their borders are not in accordance with the parishes so they are believed to have been there before the Christianization of the island. In 1774, however, the borders were changed to follow the parish borders. The district courts are grouped into six settingar and these have in pairs made out the three tredingar of Gotland.

Marklej

Marklej is a way to measure the size and worth of land.
