A Look at Granville |
Granville was founded by settlers primarily from Granville, Massachusetts. It was first surveyed in1797 as land set aside for those who served in the American Revolution. Among the earliest settlers were Theophilius Rees and Thomas Phillipps, both from Wales. They arrived first in Pennsylvania then settled in what is now Granville Township in 1802 and became known as the Founding Fathers of the Welsh Hills. Other early settlers are Lieutenant Jesse Munson, Lemuel Rose, Silas Winchel, Justin Hillyer, and Noble Sheldon.
