We find on Wikitree the mention of Hampson as follows: " Within Ireland, variants of the surname Hampson or Hampsey originated as shortened Anglicized forms of the Gaelic surname Ó hAmhsaigh, meaning ‘descendant of Amhsach’. Amhsach’ is a byname meaning ‘mercenary soldier’ or ‘messenger’, and derives from the Old Irish adjective amhasach ‘aggressive’"

The Hampson Name Study project serves as a collaborative platform to collect information on the [1] name. The hope is that other researchers like you will join the study to help make it a valuable reference point for other genealogists who are researching or have an interest in the Hampson name.

As a One Name Study, this project is not limited to persons who are related biologically. Individual studies can be used to branch out the research into specific methods and areas of interest, such as geographically (England Hampson's), by time period (18th Century Hampson's), or by topic (Hampson DNA, Hampson Occupations, Hampson Statistics). These studies may also include a number of family branches which have no immediate link with each other. Some researchers may even be motivated to go beyond the profile identification and research stage to compile fully sourced, single-family histories of some of the families they discover through this name study project.

• Hampson Archeological Museum State Park, named after. Located in Wilson, Mississippi County, Arkansas, USA. James K. Hampson^[1]began excavating the spot in 1920. it was the site of an old Nodena Village. The museum holds many architectural artifacts from this dig.^[2]
