Name
The town was established in 1763 as “Shenandoah Falls at Mr. Harper's Ferry” on the site of a ferry service owned and operated by Robert Harper. It was known as Harper’s Ferry until about 1891, when the apostrophe was removed and “Harpers Ferry” became the standard spelling.[1][2]
