Land Transactions Related to Henry White at Blackwater and Chippoaks

A search of the Library of Virginia Land Patents and Grants for James City County and Isle of Wight yields the following grants as well as references to property locations in land deeds that are describe as “Near Henry White’s Plantation” for a Henry White at Blackwater and Chippoaks:^[1]

1643, Aug 31: Neale, Henry. grantee. James City County, 850 acres at the Upper Chippokes, bounded viz: along dividing the land from the land of Henry White.^[2]

1649, July 4: White, Henry. grantee. James City County, 200 acres lying at Blackwater, upon the eastermost branch pointing up to Upper Chipoakes; adjoining the land of Francis England.^[3]

1650, Aug 20: Blake, Robert and Elridge, Samuel.grantee. Isle of Wight County, 560 acres 20 560 acres upon the third swamp So. Wt. by Wt. from Henry White's plantation.^[5]

1652, July 26: Lewis, Christopher. grantee. Isle of Wight County. 750 acres about a mile to the southward of Henry Whites plantation, at the Blackwater.^[6]

As shown in the attachment, the Henry White properties are referred to within an area known as Blackwater, Chippoaks, and the "third swamp". ^[7][8]Notable neighbors include Francis England (a staunch Government supporter during the Rebellion), Christopher Lewis, Robert Flake (Blake) and George Moore.

Very good discussion on George Moore and family with their ties to Thomas White who marries Ann (Moore) White daughter of George Moore. Concludes Thomas White might be the son of a John White-haberdasher from Bristol. Apparently no relation to the Quaker line and possibility no relation to the John White involved in the land transaction with Francis England (https://walterfitzgilbertdehamilton.wordpress.com/2018/06/01/white-and-moore/).

An Unknown John White also has related party transactions in this area as appearing on several other grants as a reference location or for other property grants as "from John White property" or "land assigned by John White" although a search for an original John White grant is not found. One must presume a John White owned property near the other grants and the original land records for John White appear to have been lost or destroyed:

1649: FRANCIS ENGLAND, 946 acres, 26 July 1652. 746 lying on a swamp running to Blackwater along Capt. Pierce’s marked trees, 200 acres lying at Blackwater upon the Eastermost branch pointing to Upper Chipoaks in James City bounded upon land of Francis England to land of Peter Hull. 746 by former pat. 20 June 1642 and 200 by assignment of a pat. from John White dated 4 July 1649.

1664: FRANCIS ENGLAND, 2366 acres 29 Sept., 1664. 946 by a former patent and 120 acres by another pat. both dated 13 Jan., 1661. 400 acres of the residue beg. at his own land and running south adj. to 200 he purchased of John White, both of these beginning at the mount of Hills Branch. 700 acres beg. at his 120 acres pat. running Ne. to Robert Eleys, to the head of Taberer’s branch and down the same to Chris. Lewis. For trans. 26 pers. including himself, Joyce, his wife and George Cripps.
