The Virginia Project was created 9 May 2016 by Alison Andrus as a sub-project of the US History Project, which she led; it expanded to cover pre-USA profiles when the US Southern Colonies Project went dormant in 2018; and it reverted to post-1776, under the now renamed United States Project, in 2020, after the May relaunch of the US Southern Colonies Project.

As a sub-project, the leader of the Virginia Project was originally called a project coordinator, and could be led by any WikiTree member in good standing. Subsequently, sub-projects were required to have a Project Leader for logistical reasons.

Project Coordinators & Leaders:

The project account, WikiTree-41, was created 18 May 2016.

A dedicated project box for Virginia was created 22 March 2018, replacing the one based on the US History project box:

  • {{US History|sub-project=Virginia}} - which no longer exists, replaced by {{United States}}
  • {{Virginia}}

Even before the dedicated project box, adding a location category with the project box was encouraged:

  • then - {{US History|sub-project=Virginia|category=Stafford County, Virginia}}
  • now - {{Virginia|category=Stafford County, Virginia}}
Otherwise, the project box adds Category: Unknown County, Virginia.

The {{Virginia Sticker}} was created 15 November 2018.

Footnotes
  1. Liz temporarily rejoined the leadership team as PC for Membership on 8 April 2023.
