What is it?
- The Hollenkamp Y-DNA research project is associated to the Hollenkamp One Name Study.
- Contact S. Elbert, Study Coordinator via "profile email".
In the Hollenkamp Y-DNA Project, we are grouping Hollenkamp (and variant names like Hollencamp and Halenkamp) Y DNA kits into matched related Y-DNA family groups to provide additional evidence about which Hollenkamp families are related on their direct paternal lines, even if the paper connections have not yet been made. In collaboration with the Hollenkamp Project at FamilyTree DNA (FTDNA)
The Hollenkamp Family DNA Project is open to all who are interested in working together to find their common heritage through the sharing of information and DNA testing.
Our study has advanced with the great help of the Hollenkamp One Name Study. The Hollenkamp Name Study is designed to look at all persons with the last names:
- Hollenkamp,
- Hollencamp or
- Halenkamp .
As of April 2024, we have been able to connect most of the Hollenkamps and Hollencamps to the historic "Hollenkamp"-farmstead in Rüssel in Ankum in Lower-Saxony, Germany. The earliest mentioned operator of the Hollenkamp farm stead is Mencke Hollenkamp.
The project aims to make its genetic and genealogical findings available under the associated Hollenkamp One Name Study project.
Preface
A REQUEST FOR EVERYONE ON WIKITREE READING THIS - > Have you done DNA testing anywhere? No matter what your surname! If yes, Please edit your WikiTree Profile to indicate that you have DNA tested, for EACH of your tests, so the magic at WikiTree can occur behind the curtain for all interested in your lines - it takes 24 hrs to update. No DNA data is transferred - only the fact you have tested. The WikiTree tools can assist us and are very useful to help establish family tree relationships, identify hints, and for genealogical collaboration.
If you have not DNA tested for genealogy (yet) - please consider doing DNA testing for genealogy! Surname Studies especially need y-DNA Testers as additional solid evidence for their genealogical work, especially when paper records are thin.

FTDNA Hollenkamp Project
The Hollenkamp Project is seeking additional Hollenkamp (Hollencamp/Halenkamp) male y-DNA testers. Please join us to help untangle the connections between various Hollenkamp lines. Big-Y is encouraged if at all possible (also see section SCHOLARSHIP below!).

Hollenkamp Y DNA Family Groups Represented on WikiTree
So far, the Hollenkamp Y-DNA study has been able to make some very exciting findings, allowing most patrilineal descendants of 'Mencke Hollenkamp to place themselves on the Y-DNA tree of mankind.[1]
Earliest Known Ancestors for Big Y700 YDNA Haplogroups
We have been able to identify:
- Mencke Hollenkamp as the Earlist Known Ancestor of Big Y700 Haplogroup R-FTC17077.[2].
- Y-DNA descendants view: https://www.wikitree.com/treewidget/Hollenkamp-45/890
- Mencke's grandson Johan Christoffer zu Brincke (1659-1728) as the Earliest Known Ancestor of Big Y700 YDNA Haplogroup R-FTC17083.[3].

- Joan Christoffer zu Brincke's grandson Joannes Wilhelmus Entrup (1764-1834) as the Earliest Known Ancestor of Big Y700 YDNA Haplogroup R-FTB48252.[4].

What we are still researching (April 2024)
There are still a lot of discoveries to be made about the Hollenkamp, Hollencamp and Halenkamp's last names and the Y-DNA of these men.
We are seeking patrilineal descendants who are volunteering to help our efforts!
We have NOT yet been able to identify the Y-DNA haplogroups of some of the additional Hollenkamp lines that do not fall under Menke Hollenkamp:
- Johan Herman Gerd (Stottmann) Hollenkamp (abt.1743-1786) - he took over the Hollenkamp farm through an "Einheirat", thus took the last name of his wife and the farmstead. His patrilineal descendants will likely have a different Y-DNA haplogroup
- Y-DNA descendants view: https://www.wikitree.com/treewidget/Stottmann-1/890
- Johan Herman (Meyer zu Westerholte) Hollenkamp (abt.1714-1763) - he took over the Hollenkamp farm through an "Einheirat", thus took the last name of his wife and the farmstead. His patrilineal descendants will likely have a different Y-DNA haplogroup
- Y-DNA descendants view: https://www.wikitree.com/treewidget/Meyer_zu_Westerholte-1/890
- Johann Heinrich Ferdinand Hollenkamp (abt.1763-1831) - through genealogy research we have not yet been able to link his lineage.
- Y-DNA descendants view: https://www.wikitree.com/treewidget/Hollenkamp-567/890
- Gerard Heinrich Hollenkamp (abt.1811-1856) - through genealogy research we have not yet been able to link his lineage.

- John Gerard Hollenkamp (abt.1816-) - through genealogy research we have not yet been able to link his lineage.

- John Henry Hollenkamp (abt.1812-abt.1878) - through genealogy research we have not yet been able to link his lineage.

- Henrich (Hollenkamp) Henning (abt.1645-1684) - through genealogy research we have not yet been able to link his lineage.

The project is only taking harmless genealogy DNA tests that look at just 37 locations on the Y-chromosome, which is found only in males. The test results contain no personal information, and you will be a match or a close match to those to whom you are related. Therefore, you cannot be identified by the results, since other men will have the same or close result.
Under this scholarship, you may also take a Big Y 700 test, which looks at 700 locations on the Y-Chromosome. This provides higher fidelity, but also in this case: the test results contain no personal information, and you will be a match or a close match to those to whom you are related. Therefore, you cannot be identified by the results, since other men will have the same or close result.
Your participation will enable you to make discoveries about your family tree, your surname, and your distant origin.
Hollenkamp Y-DNA Scholarships
There is currently one scholarship for potential Hollenkamp Y-DNA testers - please see this thread on WikiTree's G2G forums. If you are interested in Y-DNA testing, this can save you a lot of money, and you can contribute to this citizen science project.
