Location: Geelong, Victoria, Australia

The ship Hornet sailed from Liverpool in England on 29 July 1854 and arrived in Geelong, Victoria on 23 October.[1] The captain was J. Stacey[2][3] and the surgeon superintendent J. Wallis.[1] The voyage was "a fine run of 84 days".[4]
The Hornet carried what was variously reported as 350,[2] 432,[1] or 467 immigrants,[4] principally from Scotland.[4] There was one death during the voyage,[4] a boy under 14 years of age.[1] A list of those passengers from the Highlands and Islands of Scotland who received assistance is available.[5]
The ship also carried a substantial cargo, including steel, lead, iron, slates, earthenware, clocks, bellows, doormats, brandy, beer, foodstuffs of many kinds not omitting chocolate, and numerous other items.[6]
The Hornet departed from Geelong again on 7 December 1854, bound for "Akyab"[3] (now Sittwe in Myanmar).
