In the Name of God Amen
I Joshua Houlgate of Quarndon in the County of Derby yeoman being of sound mind memory and understanding, but considering the uncertainty of human life do make this my last Will and Testament in manner following that is to say
I direct that all my just debts which I shall owe at the time of my Decease my funeral expences and the charges of proving this my Will being the first paid and satisfied.
I give and bequeath unto Joseph Barrow of Wirksworth in the County of Derby and to George Houlgate of Quarndon aforesaid all my real and Personal Estate of what nature or kind soever
Upon Trust to pay to my Dear Wife Elizabeth Houlgate for her own use the Interest and produce thereof and of every part thereof as the same shall arise and become due, for and during her natural Life, and at her decease, I Give and bequeat the several Legacies or sums of money folowing that is to say
to my Friend Mrs Sarah Cooper of Nottingham the sum of one Hundred Pounds
to my friend John Cooper of Nottingham the sum of one Hundred Pounds
to my friend Mrs Elizabeth Hallam the sum of one Hundred Pounds
to Elizabeth Robinson of London the Daughter of my friend Ann Nash deceased the sum of one Hundred Pounds
and to my friend John Cooper aforesaid the sum of one Hundred Pounds Upon Trust to place the same at Interest on real or Government Security to go out and to be paid to the two Children of my friend Sarah Grundy deceased namely William Cooper Grundy and Samuel Lindley Grundy on their attaining their respective ages of twenty one years or to the Surviver of them in case one of them shall die before he attains that age the Interes in the mean time to be applied towards their maintenance respectively
Also to the four Children of my Brother Joseph Houlgate deceased Viz. my nephews Joseph and Joshua Houlgate the sum of one Hundred Pounds each, to my nephew Nathaniel Houlgate the sum of one Hundred and thirty Pounds, to my niece Hannah Hay the sum of one Hundred Pounds,
and to the Children of my nephew Robert Houlgate deceased Viz. Abraham Houlgate Hannah Mars[h] and Joseph the natural Child of Sarah Houlgate deceased the sum of one Hundred Pounds to be equally devided amongs them
Allso to the Children of my Brother George Houlgate deceased Viz. to my nephews Joshua and George Houlgate the sum of one Hundred Pounds each, to my nieces Mary Houlgate and Dorothy Towndrow the sum of one Hundred Pounds each and to George and Henry Akers the Children of my niece Hannah Akers deceased the sum of one Hundred Pounds to be equally divided betwixt them on their ariveing at the respective ages of twenty one years the Interest in the mean time to be applied towards their maintenance respectively
Allso I Give and bequeath to Sarah the Wife of Thomas Riley of Denby the sum of Ten Pounds, and to the said Joseph Barrow the sum of Ten Pounds
And I Will and direct that all and every the several and respective Legacies herein before bequeathed by me shall become payable at the expiration of Twelve months after the decease of the Survivor of us the said Joshua Houlgate and Elizabeth my wife
And if any loss shall happen owing to any of the Securities on which my money is or may be placed not being got in or recovered in that Case my Will is that an equal proportion shall be deducted from all the Legacies bequeathed in the former part of this my will to make up the loss that may be sustained by nonepayment thereof
And that if any of my Legatees shall happen to die before their respective Legacies shall become due and payable as aforesaid leaving neither Husband Wife or Child surviving them then and in such case I direct that the Legacy or share of him her or them so dying shall go and be paid to his her or their respective Brothers and Sisters then living
And as to all the rest and residue of my Personal or Real Estates and Efects not heretofore disposed of I Give and bequeath the same and every part thereof unto the said George Houlgate my nephew his Executors administrators and assigns for ever.
And I nominate and appoint the said Joseph Barrow and George Houlgate (my nephew) Executors of this my last Will and Testement revoking and making void all former and other Will or Wills by me at any time heretofore made, and declair this only to be and contain my last Will and Testement
in Witness whereof I the said Joshua Houlgate have hereunto set my hand and seal this Twenty sixth day September in the year of our Lord one Thousand eight Hundred and Twenty one
