How YOU can help Finland Project
Any improvements you can make to the Finnish profiles on WikiTree are welcome, but here are some specific goals we're working towards:
- Make sure Finnish Profiles are the best they can be by;
- Cleaning up GEDCOM junk (Please read this help page first: GEDCOM-Created_Biographies),
- Look for at least one good source (birth, marriage, death for example) and add it to the profile in accordance with WikiTrees Style Guide for Sources. (Remember that all significant changes must be justified with a source.) If you don’t have time or opportunity to source them, please add {{Unsourced|Finland}} above the Biography heading of the profile.
- Help build a biography that provides enough information to ensure the profile does not get incorrectly merged. Some profiles might also need to have the biography translated, if you know both Finnish and English you could help provide a short summary in the missing language. Please read WikiTrees Help page for Biographies before you start.
- Make sure the locations of Finnish profiles are correct and ends with either Finland or Suomi. Add location categories to Finnish profiles.
- All Finnish profile duplicates should be merged into the final lowest profile ID number, see Help:Merging
- Are you a Data Doctor? If so, please help with the Finnish DataBaseError list and help us keep errors/suggestions of Finnish profiles at a minimum.
- Populate empty location categories by adding categories to profiles. (Please see the Finnish Regions Team once it is up and running.)
- Work on the maintenance categories to improve existing profiles.
- PPP - Project Protected Profiles, alert the project team of profiles that meet the requirements and needs PPP by adding the project template to those profiles like this {{Finland|=Needs PPP}} See: Help:Project_Protection
- Add notable Finnish profiles to the project. (Someone who has an entry at/on Wikipedia in considered notable.) For example, the Presidents of Finland is considered notable and we think they should have their their own profile on WikiTree, can you help us?
The best place to start helping is with your own ancestors. You could use the list above and improve them first, then help with other Finnish profiles.
Would you like to be more actively involved in the Finland Project? As the membership numbers grow we hope that our members might want to start teams to work on a specific subject together. It could be a Profile Improvement Team or perhaps a Finnish Emigrant Team?
For the time being we have one team ready to start (as soon as we hear back from the Categorisation Projekt), and that is the Finland Regions Team.
The purpose of the Finland Regions Team:
If you have a special interest for a certain area in Finland, you could adopt/sponsor one of the 19 Regions of Finland. That would mean you help the project create and oversee the location sub-categories in that specific Region and help create free-space pages about the Region and it’s sub-categories according to the projects style standard. You would also coordinate other members interested in the area and work together as a team.
If you don’t want to be a Region Team leader and only want to be a Region Team member of a specific region it would be of great help if you could help the project populate empty location categories by adding categories to profiles and perhaps help with a free-space page or two.
If you are interested in any of the tasks of Finland Regions Team contact Maggie Andersson and you will hear from us as soon as the Team are ready to start working.
