How to Categorise Shipping

How to Categorise Shipping

In order to tidy up the Shipping Category I suggest the following.

This free space be used to discuss and agree a standard for categorising Shipping.

I’d be happy to do the work to fix this up.

Shipping is currently a top level category and under it should be subcategories which in effect is a list of Ships.

Ships

Ship name (launch year) Eg Grand Trianon (1854)

These ship categories should each have a category for:

  • Category:Ships by Name|Grand Trianon (1854)
  • Ships by Decade using Category:1850s Ships
  • Category:English Ships (etc)
  • Category:Immigrant Ships to Australia

Sailings

Each ship will then have a subcategory for each sailing: Ship name (launch year), sailed dd mmm yyyy, arrived dd mmm yyyy

  • eg Grand Trianon, sailed 28 March 1855, arrived 10 June 1855

Each sailing will then have links to categories for:

  • Immigrant/Convict Ships to Colony name eg Category:Immigrant Ships to Swan River Colony
  • Decade of Sailing eg Category:1850s Sailings
  • up to the ship category eg Grand Trianon (1854)

Sailings is the lowest level category with the ship directly above it.

The category Immigrant/Convict Ships to Colony name will then link up to Immigrant Ships to Australia or Convict Ships to Australia whichever is appropriate.

Those 2 categories will then link up to Australia, Immigration
