Hundreds of Suffolk |
From late Saxon times until the Local Government Act of 1894 most of the counties of England were divided into hundreds (or wapentakes in eastern England). The hundreds were the only widely used financial and judicial assessment unit between the parish, with it various administrative functions, and the county with its formal, ceremonial functions.[1]
