1. Open the free space page for our categorization subproject at Space:Denmark_Project_Categorization_Subproject.
2. Choose a kommune to work on and collect the information you will need to create a category page for it.
  • Scroll down to section 1.1.2 Kommuner (2007-nu) / Municipalities (2007-present). Check the list to determine which kommuner have already been created.
  • Compare the list of kommuner which have already been created with the list at https://da.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liste_over_kommuner_i_Danmark_efter_indbyggertal. Choose one from the Wikipedia list which is not yet on the free space page. These instructions will use Rebild Kommune as the example. (Note: This step is being replaced by the spreadsheet available to members of the Project's Google Group containing information for creating location categories). Choose a kommuner category name from Column F of the spreadsheet.
  • Copy the name of the kommune you selected from this Wikipedia page. You will need this spelling to determine the format for the category name. Then click on the link on the Wikipedia page for the selected kommune to get to the page with more information on the particular kommune you chose. (For example, clicking on Rebild Kommune will take you to https://da.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rebild_Kommune ) (Note: This step is being replaced by the spreadsheet available to members of the Project's Google Group containing information for creating location categories. Copy the category name from Column F of the spreadsheet instead.)
  • You may also use other sources for supplemental information on the kommune you are working with as long as you take the spelling of the kommune's name from these Danish Wikipedia pages (with the Å/å to Aa/aa modification from our guidelines) and the information you use does not conflict with the information on these pages. in the spreadsheet. Be cautious of the English Wikipedia pages on Denmark. While some are excellent, others are missing or do not contain the information needed and the spellings and name formats on them may not match the standards chosen for our categories. (Note: This step is being partially replaced by the spreadsheet available to members of the Project's Google Group containing information for creating location categories. Make sure you copy the category names from the spreadsheet.)
  • The Wikipedia kommune pages are in Danish. If you do not read Danish, use Google Translate or some other online translator to translate the page so you can gather basic information about the history of the kommune. In particular, for this group, look for the following information:
    • Geographically, where is the kommune located in Denmark? Is the name of an island given? Look at the map on the kommune's Wikipedia page if the location is not specified in the text of the page. (Example: Rebild Kommune is located in the northern part of the Jutland (Jyllands) peninsula in Region Nordjylland south the Limfjorden. The other kommuner with which it shares boundaries are Aalborg Kommune, Vesthimmerlands Kommune and Mariagerfjord Kommune.)
    • Did the kommune exist for the entire period from 2007 to the present? If so, your date range will be (2007-nu). If not, when was the kommune created and/or when was it dissolved? Substitute the year when it was created for 2007 and the year it was dissolved for nu. (Example: The third paragraph on the Wikipedia pages describes Rebild Kommune's history noting that it was created in 2007 by the merger of the former Støvring Kommune, Skørping Kommune and Nørager Kommune, so the date range will be (2007-nu). )(Note: This step is being partially replaced by the spreadsheet available to members of the Project's Google Group containing information for creating location categories. Make sure you use the category names from the spreadsheet.)
    • What kommuner from the period 1970-2006 became a part of this kommune in the 2007 reorganization? (Example: Rebild Kommune was formed in 2007 from the merger of the former Støvring Kommune, Skørping Kommune and Nørager Kommune except for Hannerupgård ejerlav which elected to join the new Mariagerfjord Kommune)
    • What sogne became a part of this kommune in the 2007 reorganization? If the Wikipedia page for the kommune does not list the sogne, the easiest way to compile the list is to use the maps at http://www.stednavne.info/VisKort/Popupmap.aspx overlaying the kommune and sogn boundary maps. (Example: These maps show the following sogne in Rebild Kommune - Aarestrup Sogn, Baelum Sogn, Binderup Sogn, Blenstrup Sogn, Bonderup Sogn, Brorstrup Sogn, Durup Sogn, Fraeer Sogn, Gerding Sogn, Gravlev Sogn, Grynderup Sogn, Haverslev Sogn, Lyngby Sogn, Øster Hornum Sogn, Ravnkilde Sogn, Rørbaek Sogn, Siem Sogn, Skibsted Sogn, Skørping Sogn, Solbjerg Sogn, Sønderup Sogn, Sørup Sogn, Stenild Sogn, Støre Brøndum Sogn, Støvring Sogn, Suldrup Sogn, Terndrup Sogn, Torup Sogn, Veggerby Sogn.) (Note: This information is being eliminated and replaced by subcategories and information from the spreadsheet available to members of the Project's Google Group containing information for creating location categories. Make sure you use the category names from the spreadsheet. You no longer need to include a list of sogne in the category description.)
3. Using the guidelines from Profile of How To Use Regional/Geographic Categories For Denmark And Explanation Of The Category Structure, compose an appropriate name for the category you are creating. As there are no duplicates in the 2007 kommuner names, the format will be Category:Name Kommune, Danmark (date range). (Note: This step is being eliminated and replaced by the spreadsheet available to members of the Project's Google Group containing information for creating location categories. Make sure you use the category name from Column F of the spreadsheet.)
  • Make sure you use the Danish spelling of the kommune's name and Danmark rather than Denmark. (Example: Category: Rebild Kommune, Danmark (2007-nu))
  • If Å or å appears in anywhere in the spelling, remember to change it to Aa or aa.
4. Compose a brief description of the kommune to use at the top of the category page using the information you collected from the kommune's Danish Wikipedia page or other sources of your choice as long as you are confident.
5. Return to the workspace page for this subproject
  • Add the kommune you have chosen to the list of kommuner created.
  • Then create the category by typing the category name for the new category enclosed in double square brackets following the name of the kommune you just added to the list and clicking on the SAVE CHANGES button.
Example for Rebild Kommune type
  • Check either the public or the private view of the free space page for our categorization subproject. The category you just created should appear at the top of the page in red. (Note: If it is there but not in red, it means someone else has already created a category with that name.)
6. Click on the red category name and you will be taken to the edit page for the new category. Scroll down to below the text which says there is one profile in this category page for the Denmark Project Categorization Subproject. Copy the following text into the top few lines of the text box on that page.

7. Replace name with the name of the region this kommune is located within. For example, the first six lines on your new category page for Rebild Kommune would read

8. Next copy the brief description of the kommune which you have written into the text box below these lines.
9. Click the preview button to make sure it is formatted correctly. Make any corrections needed.
10. Click the SAVE CHANGES button. The new category is now created and properly nested in the hierarchy. In the next few steps, you will download a map showing the location of the kommune and add it to your new category page.
19. Return to the workspace page for this subproject and add the word done next to the entry for this kommune.
