Welcome to the Irish Palatines Team

This is part of the Ireland Project's Topics Team which is part of the Ireland Project
This is also part of the Palatine Migration Project when working on the original Palatines but not their descendants.

In September 1709, almost 3000 Palatines were relocated from England to rural Ireland. These refugees, originally from the Lower German Palatinate, were fleeing the wars with France. For more details see wikipedia German Palatines Re-settlement in Ireland

The Palatine Migration Project covers the Migration from the German Palatinate 1700-1776 and not their descendants.
This projects covers those who migrated to Ireland and their descendants.

Hi,

Does anyone have access to the original, hand-written Rathkeale church registers, or know where they are?

I’m a direct descendant of the Teskeys, one of the Palatine Irish groups who settled in Limerick. My great grandmother was Henrietta Teskey.

I’d like to be linked to the Irish only part of the Palatine Migration Project, please.

Dear Richard and all,

I have a brick wall, my 2GGM Jane Abigail Schmidt (b. 1826, Massachusetts), who repeatedly claimed on various censuses that her father was from Ireland, and married her mother in Massachusetts. Having learned about the Irish Palatines, and seeing that Schmidt is among their surnames, I would like to research the Schmidt lines in Ireland and contribute to the project.

I would think that the best place to start would be with any existing WikiTree entries for Irish Palatines with the surname Schmidt. I would be grateful to be made a member of the project and I am also grateful for any help the other members might be able to offer to get me going.

Thanks!
