The goal of this sub-project is to ensure that Manx profiles are appropriately sourced and able to be grouped into meaningful categories.
Here are some of the tasks that need to be done. We'll be working on them and others, and could use your help:
- Add sources to profiles identified as Unsourced Profiles;
- Improve sourcing and tidying up the data in the biography box and removing unnecessary GEDCOM clutter etc.; and
- Adding profiles for people who were prominent on the Isle of Man.
Will you join us? Please post a comment here on this page, in G2G using the project tag, or send me a private message. Thanks!
This sub-project manages the period from 1399, when Mann became a feudal holding of the English Crown, until the modern day. For the period prior to 1399 see the Kingdom of the Isles.
The Isle of Man is a self-governing British Crown Dependency, located in the Irish Sea between the islands of Great Britain and Ireland. The head of state is King Charles III, who holds the title of Lord of Mann. The Lord of Mann is represented by a Lieutenant Governor, but its foreign relations and defence are the responsibility of the British Government.[1]
The Island has seventeen parishes - Andreas, Arbory, Ballaugh, Braddan, Bride, German, Jurby, Lezayre, Lonan, Malew, Marown, Maughold, Michael, Onchan, Patrick, Rushen and Santon - although by virtue of their larger populations Michael and Onchan are deemed, for local government purposes, as Districts. For this reason Laxey, Port St Mary and Port Erin also have their own District Commissioners while Castletown, Peel and Ramsey have Town Commissioners and Douglas, being the largest of all, has a Corporation, headed by a Mayor.
Each parish also has a Captain whose ancient role involved providing men to 'watch' the island 24 hours a day and guard against invasion but is now regarded as more of an honorary title required only to attend the Tynwald ceremony and local meetings.

Curious if the brothers Gibb (well, two of them as Andy was born in Manchester) will be added? Also curious why Maurice is under management (and protection) of the English Project, and Robin (his twin) is under management (and protection) of the Genealogy in the Media Project, and Andy has no protection? (Is Andy not as "at risk" as his brothers?)
