Jackson County History
Jackson County was formed on November 6, 1801, from part of Smith County and Native American lands. It was named for Andrew Jackson, who would later serve as the seventh President of the United States.
Geography
Jackson County is part of Middle Tennessee, one of Tennessee's Three Grand Divisions. These divisions are not only geographic, but also cultural and defined in state law. Jackson County is also part of the Central Region of Appalachia.
