Jefferson Hall |
In the 1800s, Lemuel Daniel Greene Sr built a home on his 300 acre cotton plantation in Greene County. This home, known as Jefferson Hall, is a two-story Greek Revival home with large columns. It became the center of the developing village when the Georgia Railroad made its terminus there about 1838. When the railroad was extended to Augusta, the area was no longer thriving, and Jefferson Hall is now the only remaining home.
This home is privately owned and not accessible to the public, but is visible from the road. It is located at 6041 Union Point Highway, Union Point, Georgia.
It should be noted that there are differing dates on record of when it was built; 1818 and 1830, but most family researchers indicate it was built for his wife, Nancy Ann Merritt. They married in 1806 and she passed away in 1823.
This structure is identified in the National Register of Historic Places, accepted on 10 Aug 1989.
