This is the Will and Testament of John Nisbet who passed away in January 1862 and was laid to rest at Jackson City Cemetery in Jacksonville, AL. His legacy appears to have gone to probate in February 1862 when it was published in Jacksonville Republican 12 March 1865 to give notice of what transpired. This was before the Civil War had come to a close.

Here is the 1850 U.S. Slave Schedule with unidentified African-American Ancestors in Benton County, Alabama. Benton County, Alabama is no longer in existence.

There is also the 1860 U.S. Slave Schedule for John Nisbet of Jacksonville, Calhoun, Alabama. The area covered was Ranges 8 & 9, in Calhoun County.

John Nisbet was the owner of six (6) African-American Heritage Ancestors that five (5) can be identified in 1865 by his Last Will & Testament.
