The underlying reason behind the study in this essay, is to identify the parents and beginning history of John Robinson (bef.1645-bef.1727), husband of Dorothy Perkins of Topsfield, MA. Extensive searches have been tirelessly conducted to find hints regarding his parents and where he may have been born, but the results were fruitless and clearly revealed that a different approach would be needed to find any useful genealogical information regarding this particular John Robinson. So this study was kicked off based on the idea that it may be possible to identify his roots using a process of elimination, that is to say there just weren't that many John Robinsons living in New England on or before his marriage to Dorothy Perkins in 1661. Therefore it may be possible to gather information on all of the John Robinsons living in New England during this period and by looking at the data from perspective of evaluating ALL John Robinsons of this place and time, it should be more deterministic to place source information with the correct John Robinson Identity. The first step is to identify, to the extent possible, every John Robinson identity living in New England in the seventeeth century, and to establish as much vital data for each identity as presently possible.
