The goal of this project is to note all the Jordans of Greensville County, Virginia, in the 1700's (or earlier), and see how they are related.

Right now this project just has one member, me. I am A. Tuinstra.

Here are some of the tasks that I think need to be done. I'll be working on them, and could use your help.

Thomas Jordan (1726 - 1784)- https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Jordan-5704. Parents unknown. Some have suggested his father was named Jesse, but I have not seen any evidence for this.

Spouse: Possibly Olive (Last Name Unknown). There was a Thomas in Greensville Co., married to an Olive. They are mentioned in a deed of sale in 1783. Whether this is the same Thomas, I am not sure.[1]

Thomas wrote a will in Greensville Co, Virginia, in 1784. No wife is mentioned. Three children are mentioned:

  • Jesse Jordan
  • Henry Jordan
  • Temperance (Jordan) Bass

Enslaved people mentioned in his will:

  • Lydia
  • Amey
  • Jointer ("Woman")
  • Nathan ("Boy")
  • Isac ("Boy")
  • Milly ("Girl")
  • Moses ("Boy")
  • Charlotte ("Girl")

Thomas also mentioned his granddaughter, Betsy Ellis. She is believed to be the daughter of Selah Jordan https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Jordan-15963 (apparently deceased at the time of her father's will) and Joseph Ellis. Selah and Joseph were married 1776, in Brunswick Co, VA. [2] Mother of Besty Ellis.
