In the Year of our Lord one thousand Eight hundred & fifty four I Joseph M. Cromwell of the County of Jefferson in the state of Virginia being of sound mind do hereby make and declare this to be my last Will and Testament. Item first, I leave to my beloved wife Mary Jane Cromwell all my property both real and personal in Union County Kentucky (to sell or dispose of in any manner and at any time she may feel disposed to do so) for the benefit of herself and our two children Marietta and Lucy Jane Cromwell. Item second I leave my beloved wife Mary Jane Cromwell my Executrix and Guardian of our children with full power to collect all monies that are due me either in the state of Kentucky on Virginia, and to pay all my just & honorable debts. I farther request that no security shall be required of her either as Executrix or Guardian Given under my hand and seal this 1st day of May 1854 Jos M Cromwell.

In the County Court At a Court held for said County on the 18th day of September 1854 this last Will & Testament of Joseph M. Cromwell dec’d was proved in open Court by the oaths of John F. Lancaster & Gerard A Mason two of the subscribing witnesses thereto, and ordered to be recorded and on the motion of Mary Jane Cromwelll the Executrix named in said Will, who made oath according to law and entered into and acknowledged a Bond in the penalty of Five hundred Dollars with condition according to law & without security, according to a provision contained in the said Will certificate is granted her for obtaining Letters testamentary in due form.
