Charles Kent (1778-1855) and his extended FAN (family, friends, associate, neighbors) has been the Big Kent Family Mystery since I began researching the Kent line with my grandfather, George Arthur Kent (1900-1987). He was a descendant of one of Charles' grandsons, Walton P. Kent Kent (abt 1824-1890]. Walton's mother was Charles' oldest daughter, Nancy Ann. Kent (abt 1802-1871).
However, Walton's father is unknown. My grandfather was aware that Walton was illigetimate but no one knew the identify of his father. A recent Big YDNA test of Walton's great grandson (my father) Ernest Ezra Kent (1924-2019] pointed to the surname of Colquitt.
One of the purposes of this Free Space Profile is not only to document what I suspect about this NPE (non-paternal event) but also to document what I've researched about Charles' own ancestry and his other children -- each with their own set of mysteries.
One challenge in researching Kents in post revolutionary to Civil War era in the south is that first names are repeated in subsequent generations, often in multiple occurances in the same generation, i.e. a candidate for Charles' father, John Kent, had a son named John but also a nephew (or two) named John. Other repeating names are Charles, Sampson, Daniel, Nancy...the list is long.
As of March 1,2025 this page is documenting the evidence I've accumulated about the following Kents:

- Migrating Daniel married the daughter of xxx Baughn and Leonard Harris married her sister, xxx. Leonard was a close neighbor of Charles and remained involved in Charles (and his daughters) legal affairs throughout their lives. I want to know more about this migration.

Family Search Full Text has found obscure documents that I've never had access to before and may help provide evidence for answering some of these questions. Other sources I've had for years but needed more puzzle pieces provided by AI. I've arranged those sources chronologically below.

Another document from Truro Parish in Fairfax is a lease between William Fitzhugh Jr. and John Kent. John for 143 acres is securing farming rights for his three sons: Charles, John, and Lewis. The tract of land is known as Ravensworth. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ravensworth_(plantation) The rent was to be delivered to a warehouse on Potomac River.
