Kent place categories

The England Project categorises places as "Place, County": Space:English_Place_Name_Categories. We do not categorise by district, parish, etc.

Kent had three place categories which are actually districts: Thanet, (Isle of) Sheppey and Medway. These categories need to be removed from the category structure. The profiles which were in them have been recategorised to the valid place categories as listed below. Categories shown in red still need to be created, if required.

Sheppey

Medway

Thanet

(The Thanet registration district was more extensive than the Isle of Thanet.)

I am willing to help but I am not sure I understand the division into the districts:

for example: Minster in Thanet, St Lawrence in Thanet, fine but St Peter's not St Peter in Thanet as it was named imo

St Peter in Thanet would make more sense to me, but the category has already been set up as "St Peter's, Kent", which is how the GRO name it. Vision of Britain, which for good or ill is our reference guide on WikiTree, calls it "St Peter, Kent". I'm inclined to leave well alone in this instance.

Sutton by Dover might need disambiguation from Sutton Valence (near Maidstone)

and I don't understand why Wye (near Ashford) would be under Sarre (Birchington) e.g. William Young

You're absolutely right on the first point, Jeremy. There are categories for Sutton at Hone and Sutton Valence. "Sutton, Kent" should be renamed "Sutton by Dover", to prevent people selecting the wrong Sutton.

I can't help with William Young: maybe ask the PM?

PS: I've renamed "Sutton by Dover".
