Killadysert Civil Parish
- Irish or Alternate Name: Cill an Dísirt.
- Logainm Link: Killadysert Parish on Logainm.ie
- Barony: Clonderalaw
- Province: Munster
Introduction
- The civil and Roman Catholic parish go by the same name that surrounds the village of Killadysert.
- Kildysart, or Killadysert, is derived from CILL AN DISIRT MORTHUILE, the church of the deserted place of the big tides or the church of the hermitage of the swollen waters. MORTHUILE can mean a rush of water, a deluge or a tide. A less popular translation would be the hermitage church of the big tide or high tide because when the church was originally built it was erected above the high-water mark rather than on the hill above it. The parish was referred to, in Irish, as DISERTMURTUILE, and sometimes TUATH-NA-FEARNA, territory of the alder trees. Source: Clare Library

The Townlands of Killadysert Civil Parish
- The townlands in Killadysert Parish (Cill an Dísirt) are those taken from Killadysert Parish on Logainm.ie and validated against townlands on Townlands.ie, PlacenamesNI.org where appropriate, Griffiths valuations data and the 1901 and 1911 censuses. A link is provided in the notes for the 1901 and 1911 census. Please note that these may not always work if the townland was not available on the census in question. The census site may also substitute a similar name so be prepared for unexpected results!
- If the townland has a category it will be linked in the table below. If there is no link and you need the category please contact David to get the category created or put in a request for the category to be created. Alternatively, if you feel condifent to do so, see Townland Category Information Boxes below for how to create them yourself.
