About the Project

The Kirkpatrick Name Study project serves as a collaborative platform to collect information on the Kirkpatrick name. The hope is that other researchers like you will join the study to help make it a valuable reference point for other genealogists who are researching or have an interest in the Kirkpatrick name.

As a One Name Study, this project is not limited to persons who are related biologically. Individual studies can be used to branch out the research into specific methods and areas of interest, such as geographically (England Kirkpatrick's), by time period (18th Century Kirkpatrick's), or by topic (Kirkpatrick DNA, Kirkpatrick Occupations, Kirkpatrick Statistics). These studies may also include a number of family branches which have no immediate link with each other. Some researchers may even be motivated to go beyond the profile identification and research stage to compile fully sourced, single-family histories of some of the families they discover through this name study project.

Charity (Kirkpatrick) Parkos — you and I are matching 7.6 CentiMorgans on Chromosome 8.
Hello Enrique, I have done the DNA testing, but I really don't understand it. What does that mean? How do we use it to prove relationships? Thank you, Charity.
Tammy, you seem to be the most experienced researcher, How does this one name study work exactly? Is this like a g2g feed specifically for kirkpatricks? I don't want to create a mess doing the wrong thing. :) Thank you, Charity
Sorry, I haven't responded sooner. I have only signed up to work on one One Name Study on WikiTree and never tried to take a lead. So, I think this may be lead by all of us. I need to find a mentor for us to use on this study. I have been reading this https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project:One_Name_Studies. I am also looking around at other studies. I have come across of lot of information in books on FamilySearch and want to connect them where I can. Thanks! Tammy

If I'm understanding this correctly, we need to start by creating a specific category for our research. I've seen a few Kirkpatrick AREA Studies that look like they are in Scotland/Ireland, So my suggestion would be that we create a broad American Kirkpatricks study, then maybe break it down into state? What are your thoughts? Thank, Charity

Thanks for inviting me to join this name study group! I look forward to meeting and collaborating with everyone.
Seba, I'm not sure this One Name Study has been active lately. I would like to offer to help get this going. I have been doing research on the Kirkpatrick family in New Jersey and think this study could be beneficial in sorting them out. Thank you, Tammy

After nearly 2.5 years I am taking steps to get this Kirkpatrick - Kilpatrick name study going and freely admit my novice status. Any help or advice will be greatly appreciated. My name is Kirkpatrick, but I am aware of a number of DNA proven Kilpatrick cousins. It is my understanding that in ages past people were more casual in spelling names, and I am pretty sure that Kirkpatrick and Kilpatrick have at times been used interchangeably. I would love to hear from anyone who cares to participate.

My own Kirkpatrick ancestors have been in the Americas since the mid-1700's or even a little earlier. There are also definitely related Kilpatricks. My Kirkpatrick GGGrandfather had several Kilpatrick siblings.
