Klapperich Land Purchases Spink County SD

Jacob Klapperich was coming into his own as a land speculator in Spink County, South Dakota during the Great Dakota Land Boom. He made several big purchases, some as late as the month before he died. It is difficult to sort the land purchased for his father Anton (mentioned in Anton's probate and sold by executor to settle debts) and land that may have been owned by Anton his son, known as Tony. This page is to sort out these transactions in detail that is far too in-depth for any one profile.

My question is: Jacob was land rich and cash poor enough to finance his purchase of wood products for his house in 1884. He paid $50 here and there and carried a balance of about $120 at 7% interest. Yet in the summer of 1897 he paid off the balance and made several land purchases. Was there a sale of earlier homestead claims?
