Knockane Townland has an area of 240.52 hectares / 0.93 square miles / 594 acres, 1 rood, 12 perches. It is bordered by the townlands of Bunacum, Clash, Coole, Coolkereen, Falleen, Kilgorteen, Pallas East and Woodlands.[1] It is shown on the Down Survey map of the area.[2] There is a ruined castle or tower house on the townland.[3]
1832 - William Thomas Shortt Esq of Summerhill, to Frances Emily youngest daughter of James Shortt of Knockane the County of Tipperary, Esq.[4]
1835 - James Shortt of Knockane married Ellen Ryall of Falleen on 14/9/1835, witnesses George and John Ryall.[5] (Knockane borders Pallas so that gives a possible close link to John Shortt of Pallas and Templeharry is close to Gorraun of which John of Pallas was tenant. On the other hand, the link with Summerhill - see below - would indicate that James is a son of William Shortt or James Shortt of Summerhill.)
1838 - Christenings of James Shortt, aged 2 years, and Anne Shortt on 7/10/1838, children of James and Ellen Shortt of Summerhill, James' profession listed as Doctor.[6]
