Kumeu Cemetery was an Anglican Cemetery that was originally set aside to meet the needs of parishioners but became the default cemetery for other locals.
There are about 21 unmarked graves of gumdiggers who died during the flu epidemic. Police buried them in the cemetery grounds and their graves were overcome by vegetation.
In 2012 the Parish members of the Kumeu Cemetery Board pressed the council to buy neighbouring private land for more graves and to take over the administration as the Sexton, Gwen Roberts, was about to retire and there was only room left for about 100 interments.
The South Kaipara Co-operating Parish in Helensville were the administrators of the cemetery on land held by the General Trust Board of the Auckland Anglican Diocese in 2012. St Chad’s Council, in Huapai, now administers the cemetery on behalf of Auckland Anglican Diocese. (2019)
The cemetery holds the graves of many pioneers of the district. The old section of the cemetery is separated from the new section by a small gully.

New Zealand Cemeteries Team
This page is maintained by the New Zealand Cemeteries Team, who are part of the Global Cemeteries Project (and the Oceania Cemeteries Team). The aim is is to document the final resting place of those buried in New Zealand, to ensure that each cemetery has its own free-space page, which is linked to the category structure for Global Cemeteries, and that those buried in them are also gathered in the correct category.
- Currently there are 1 profiles listed on Wikitree for this cemetery, which is well short of the number of interments. Findagrave has 762 entries, and Billion Graves has 458.
The overall progress of this endeavour will be found on the NZ Cemeteries Team Progress page.
