In the above maps, the lands owned by Elias would have been within the rectangle outlined in yellow. Within that yellow rectangle, are 2 red rectangles, which (from left to right) are respectively Section 4 and Section 3 (of Township 24, Range 8). The Bibb County Tax assessment only lists that his lands were within sections 3, 4, but it is highly unlikely that he owned all the land within Sections 3 and 4. His 1848 tax assessment was for $350 (i.e., the value of the land); and given that the original land patents in Alabama around that time were sold for ~$1.25 per acre, then he may have owned on order of 200 - 300 acres of land. A section of a township typically was 640 acres, which could and was easily quartered into 160 acres, and could and was further subdivided/quartered into "aliquots" of 40 acres each. Hence, if the 1848 tax assessment was accurate that Elias Callahan owned land in both Section 3 and Section 4, which in total had an assessed value of $350, then he may have had abutting aliquots from Section 3 and Section 4.
Land patents made prior to 1848 in Bibb County, Alabama for Township 24, Range 8, Sections 3 and 4, using the Bureau of Land Management website for land patents made in T24, R8, S3 [2] or T24, R8, S4[3]
However, his name is not listed in the table below. This suggests that Elias Callahan may have purchased his land from one or more of the people below (or their heirs, or possibly an intermediate owner).
