With the end of the First World War, the "sovereign church regiment" of the King of Württemberg also came to an end. The president of the consistory took over the provisional church government until 1924 when the new constitution of the church of Württemberg came into force. The head of the church initially bore the title "Church President", from 1933 on "Bishop".
