The Lanes in Maine Have Nothing To Do With Spain
Q1: Is Lydora Lane (abt.1818-) (wife of Perez S. Field (1811-)) a fairly close relative of Joanna Lane (wife of Perez S. Jennings)? The fact that these Lane women married men named Perez S. ______ may be a total coincidence.
Q2: Is Lydora a fairly close relative of the Daniel Lane who was an early settler in Poland, ME? She and her husband appear to have lived there, according to the 1840 census.
Q3: Who is the Daniel Lane that apparently was an early settler in Poland, Maine?
Research notes regarding questions above:
Joanna's paternal grandfather is Daniel Lane (1734-bef.1810), who had both a son named after him and a daughter named Lydia. The town where these Lanes lived, Leeds, is about 29 miles from Poland (via today's roads).
Benjamin Lane (1752-1841) and several of his children died in Poland. Perhaps there's a close connection to Lydia. Also, he has an uncle, a different Daniel Lane Sr. (1740-abt.1781), who died in Leeds and could have been in Poland around the time of settlement (1767).
