Abraham "Abram" Davis was born about 1812 in Maine. He married in Hollis to Hannah J Day. In 1850 they were living in Biddeford, but by 1870 they had moved to Rockport, Massachusetts.

According to Abram's death and census records, he was born in Lewiston or Durham ME or NH and he parents are listed as Benjamin and Hannah, but no other information about his ancestry or origin has yet been located.

Where was he born? His death record in Medford says Lewiston, ME of parents born in New Gloucester, 1850 census says Canada, other records say Alfred. In 1865 and 1870 they have a child living with them, George F. Davis, born in Canada about 1859 - is he a clue to Abram's ancestry? What happened to him after 1870? Abram is not found in the Lewiston or New Gloucester records.

Get death certificates for children to see if there is a specific place of birth given for Abram. Are there property records in Maine that might shed light on his origins? Did he leave a will? Check early census records for possible father, Benjamin Davis, in Maine. There was one in Pownal that needs to be pursued. Other avenues?
